Americans are the only people
in the world known to me whose
status anxiety prompts them to
advertise their college and
university affiliations in the rear
window of their automobiles.

man lies down on the tracks of
history to wait for the train of
the future to run over him.
One resolution I have made,
and try always to keep, is this:
"To rise above the little things."
Never be satisfied with what
you achieve, because it all pales
in comparison with what you are
capable of doing in the future.
Don't let what you can't do
interfere with what you can do.
To accomplish great things
we must not only act, but also dream,
not only plan, but also believe.
The difficult we do immediately;
the impossible takes a little longer.
Life is divided into three terms -
that which was, which is, and
which will be. Let us learn from
the past to profit by the present,
and from the present
to live better in the future.
It isn't the incompetent who
destroys an organization. The
incompetent never gets in a
position to destroy it. It is those
who have achieved something
and want to rest upon their
achievements who are forever
clogging things up.
We know the good, we apprehend
it clearly, but we can't bring it
to achievement.
